New Recipes Volume 17

For those requesting access to the private site ... please stop.
I haven't posted anything there in a couple months, I don't plan to anytime soon, and all links are dead since zippyshare has gone kaput! I have no intention of re-upping anything and do not have the time required to continue in the fashion that I have established there. I made a commitment to weekly compilations here on the public site and plan to stick with it. Dig it or don't, but that's it for the foreseeable future. Many thanks to the select few who have contributed over the last several years.

Make Up For Lost Time

With a career in music now spanning sixty years, it should come as no surprise that the talented Bobby Patterson has worked a wide variety of roles within the industry. Hailing from Dallas, Texas, this multi-instrumentalist has served as bandleader, singer, songwriter and producer. Patterson has worked in A&R and promotions, as well as owning and operating his own label. In later years he became popular radio personality by way of Dallas-based radio station, KKDA 730 AM. Patterson signed with Abnak Records in the mid 60s where he recorded quite prolifically with his band, The Mustangs, through the remainder of the decade. The lion's share of his material was self-penned / produced with 45s issued exclusively on subsidiary label, Jetstar Records which sadly folded along with parent label, Abnak Records, in 1970. It was just prior to this that Patterson had met Jerry Strickland (who is co-credited here quite a bit), a Louisiana-based songwriter who at the time was running Jewel subsidiary, Soul Power Records. These two chaps paired better than chitlins and collard greens, churning out a swath of southern soul compositions, primarily for a host of Jewel Records artists on the Ronn, Paula and Soul Power imprints during the early 70s. Patterson helmed production on many of these projects including full-length albums by Little Johnny Taylor and Tommie Young, as well as his own debut album, It's Just A Matter Of Time, released on Paula Records in 1972. Sadly the partnership fizzled out fairly quickly and by the mid 70s Strickland was operating Alarm Records while Patterson was launching his own label, Proud Records in 1976. The following year he released a 45 by way of Sylvia Robinson's All Platinum Records and wouldn't return until 1982 when he released The Storyteller album, as by Bobby Story. After a fourteen year recording hiatus Patterson's resurgence came with appropriately titled album, Second Coming, released on his own Proud Records in 1996. This was followed by festivals, a tour of Northern England (where he is treated like Royalty), the annual vintage R&B/Rock showcase at Ponderosa Stomp and another album, I'd Rather Eat Soup, released on Big Bidness Records in 1998. The albums Live At The Longhorn Ballroom (2003) and Back Out Here Again (2012) were issued on Proud while the critically acclaimed I Got More Soul! (2014), was released by Los Angeles-based Omnivore Recordings. Since then Patterson has entertained a many of live audiences across the US and internationally, performing just earlier this month at the Longhorn R & B Revue in Dallas, Texas. Most of the recordings included in this collection come from the peak of Patterson's career in the early 70s and are produced by the man himself. Enjoy.
